Troy grew up in Toronto and spent 20 years playing hockey. That included several seasons at the semi-professional level before he joined the varsity team at Ryerson University, where he studied entrepreneurship. Those two paths came together when he founded Trility Golf Group.
When his hockey career ended, golf filled the competitive gap. It gave him something to keep working at and a standard he could always push toward. What drew him in most was the mental side of the game. “It’s a game played six inches between your ears,” Troy says. “The continuous chase for perfection that never will come keeps you coming back time and time again. It’s the most beautiful game in the world.” That passion is behind everything Trility does, and so is his goal of making the experience better for everyone who plays.
For Troy, the best part of the work is the people. Every event brings hundreds of new faces, and building real relationships with them has meant the most to him. Many of the people he met at Trility’s first PGA TOUR event, The American Express, are still close friends today. He also loves seeing the craft behind each course he visits and the attention to detail that goes into the member experience. “Golf is a series of little things that add up to make the entire experience unique,” he says, and Trility’s on-site Player Experiences are built around that idea.
Most of all, Troy credits the team. He sees Trility as a close group, all bought into the same vision and pushing toward the same goal, and he says watching that effort pay off has been the most rewarding part of building the company. “They keep me motivated,” he says, “and it’s an honour to lead them into battle each day.”
Away from work, you’ll find him with family and friends, out golfing, fishing or hiking, or watching sunday football cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
